"Find the secret sector with the Rock Cruiser."

To get to the secret sector (Hidden Crystal Worlds), the player must first encounter the Dense asteroid field distress call event and acquire the Damaged Stasis Pod. Then, arrive at a Zoltan research facility which will give a blue event option asking the Zoltan if they can fix it. Once the pod is fixed, a Crystal named Ruwen will be revitalized and join the ship's crew. If Ruwen is kept alive and the Ancient device is encountered in the Rock Homeworlds, another blue event option will be shown where they can reactivate the device, thereby teleporting the ship into the secret sector.

Alternatively, the Rock Cruiser type C (with Advanced Edition Content on) already has a Crystal crew member, which allows skipping the first two events.

Step-by-step guide:

  1. Obtain the Damaged Stasis Pod augment - In Pirate Controlled Sector, Engi Controlled Sector/Homeworlds, and Rock Controlled Sector/Homeworlds
    • Occurs at a distress beacon (the Long-Ranged Scanners won't detect Map icon diamond yellow ship presence)
    • Choose (Rock Plating) Make a thorough search for the ship without fear of stray asteroids (100% success chance) / Search for the ship (1/3 success chance)
      • Then Grab the stasis chamber
  2. Talk to the Zoltans at the Zoltan Research Facility - In Engi Controlled Sector/Homeworlds and Zoltan Controlled Sector/Homeworlds
    • Occurs at a normal beacon (the Long-Ranged Scanners won't detect Map icon diamond yellow ship presence)
    • Choose (Damaged Stasis Pod) Ask if they can fix this
  3. Find the Ancient Device - In Rock Homeworlds
    • Occurs at a normal beacon (it will be marked as QUEST if you have the Crystal Crew from the Stasis Pod) (the Long-Ranged Scanners won't detect Map icon diamond yellow ship presence)
    • Choose (Crystal Crew) Reactivate it
  4. Go to the Hidden Crystal Worlds Marker
    • Occurs at a quest beacon

1. Calculated chances of Dense asteroid field distress call event occurrence: (click to show)

Below is the roughly calculated chance for this event to be placed in a beacon in each sector. Please note that these chances are not completely accurate. They are meant to act as a guide.

Sector Chance
Engi Controlled Sector ~60%
Engi Homeworlds ~60%
Pirate Controlled Sector ~69%
Rock Controlled Sector ~75%
Rock Homeworlds ~75%*

* However, as the 2nd step cannot happen at Rock Homeworlds, and the 3rd step HAS TO take place there, and Rock Homeworlds can occur only once per game, therefore unlocking the Crystal Cruiser CANNOT be successful if started from this sector.

The above chances are calculated by taking the average number events that are placed, in the eventlist that contains this event, and dividing it by the number of events in the eventlist. Example:

This event is, among others, a part of the eventlist NEUTRAL_ROCK.

<sectorDescription name="ROCK_SECTOR" minSector="1" unique="false">
        <name>Rock Controlled Sector</name>
    [...]
    <event name="NEUTRAL_ROCK" min="7" max="8"/>
</sectorDescrption>

The average number of events that are used from NEUTRAL_ROCK in the Rock Controlled Sector is 7.5 ((min+max)/2).

The eventlist NEUTRAL_ROCK contains 9 events:

<eventList name="NEUTRAL_ROCK">
    <event load="ROCK_MANTIS_HUNTER"/>
    <event load="ROCK_MANTIS_FREIGHTER"/>
    <event load="ROCK_ATHIEST"/>
    <event load="ROCK_LOOTING"/>
    <event load="ROCK_STARSHIP_MINE"/>
    <event load="PIRATE_CIVILIAN"/>
    <event load="MERCENARY"/>
    <event load="FRIENDLY_SLAVER"/>
    <event load="ASTEROID_DERELICT_SHIP"/>
</eventList>

This becomes 7.5/9 = 0,83333... = ~83%

However, this doesn't take account of the fact that some of these events are unique, and therefore cannot be picked twice, among other possible algorithms that the game uses to pick events.

2. Zoltan research facility event occurrence information: (click to show)
  • This event can occur multiple times per game:
    • at one beacon per Zoltan sector;
    • at one or two beacons per Engi sector.
  • Any Engi sector potentially allows to receive and open a Damaged Stasis Pod within the same sector.
3. Ancient device event information and hints: (click to show)
  • Any Crystal crewmember can be used for the blue option, however, only the Crystal Crew from the Stasis Pod (Ruwen) will mark the entry beacon as a quest in the Rock Homeworlds sector.
  • HINTS:
4. Hidden Crystal Worlds information: (click to show)
  • The strength of enemy ships in the Crystal sector corresponds to the Rock Homeworlds sector number.
  • When exiting the Crystal sector, a player has no option of choosing the next sector. Instead, the ship is teleported to the next random sector following the Rock Homeworlds sector number. (sector map)
